Be Involved

Volunteers are the heart of our organization. As the small ministry with a big heart, we rely on our network of volunteers to help us help others.

Special Projects

  • Childcare: On-call to provide childcare assistance at the shelter to allow moms to work on their job search and attend appointments. May also be called on to provide assistance during adults-only activities at the shelter.
  • Meals: Prepare a meal off-site and deliver it to the shelter. Generally, requires enough food for 15 individuals. Dinner is typically delivered between 4:30-5 p.m. the day the meal is to be served, however accommodations can be made for advance delivery.
  • Overnight supervision: Fill-in to provide overnight supervision at shelter. Not a regular requirement, but may be called on to fill in holes in coverage when regular staff unavailable.
  • Committees: Serve on a My Sister’s Place committee, typically requires monthly meeting commitment. Available committees include: fundraising, community outreach, development and human resources. Volunteers with specialty skills including banking/finance, law practice, human resources, real estate, etc. are also needed to serve on our advisory board.
Weekly Needs
  • Organizing: Sorting donations received and also organizing supplies at the shelter. Assist staff with inventory. (Can take 1 shift per week)
  • Reception: Helping to answer the phones, greet visitors and accept donations. Four hour shifts available from 9:00 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and afternoons from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Wednesday and Fridays. (Can take 1 shift each week)
  • Driver: Transport residents to church using the My Sister’s Place 12-passenger van. Arrive at shelter to pick up at 8:50 a.m., drop residents off at church and return to pick them up from church at 12:30 p.m. (Can do this weekly, every other week or once per month)
